How To Decorate Your Kitchen

You might feel like there’s not much decoration that can be done in the kitchen, owing to the lack of space and abundance of things that need to fit into that space. However, there are many great ideas you can adopt in order to give a fresh look to your kitchen some of these ideas are discussed in this article.

Paint:

The first thing you need to consider in your kitchen is the colors you are choosing for the walls – this will decide how the cabinets and other furniture are going to be.

Try getting stencils for kitchen-y patterns (for instance, patterned like a slice of orange or a wine glass) and use these stencils to add designs to your walls at a very low cost. It might also be a good idea to look for wallpaper borders to allow the walls of the kitchen to really stand out.

Decorating your appliances:

Depending on the kind of appliance in question, you can use temporary wallpaper on it, or you can use paint. When painting your appliance, make sure you don’t touch any electronic part of it, and use vinyl wall paint and stencils to create small patterns on it – either to match the other appliances, or the wall of the room. You can also make use of decals and make them yourself by using sticky paper.

Display:

Since it is the kitchen you are decorating, it will be a good idea for you to have a rack on one of the walls reserved for cookbooks. How you arrange and present them can contribute to making the kitchen look prettier. Ideally, you might want to try arranging them according to size first.

Cabinets:

Since it is the kitchen we are talking about, a majority of the space in the kitchen will be occupied by the cabinets. So, it becomes necessary for you to decorate them. After all, you don’t want the rest of your kitchen to look amazing while the cabinets are still plain! Fortunately, you don’t have to replace your cabinets in order to suit your new décor. One of the things you can do is apply a fresh coat of paint to suit your color scheme; this can be done with other stand-alone pieces of furniture in the kitchen too. Apart from this, you can redesign your cabinet merely by changing the cabinet pulls, as they are available in different materials and styles.

They will make your cabinets look as good as new. Alternatively, you can decorate around the pulls in your own way – all you need is some scrap material and glue!

 Photos:

If you are really keen on including photos and frames in the kitchen, it might be a good idea for you to get two or three frames, and use inspired food photography as your subjects for the photos. That will give an enhanced effect to the kitchen. An alternate option is photographing culinary tools for the same.

Culinary tools:

You can give your tools a makeover too, while you are it. Simply pick up a brush and add shades of the same color to different spoons, handles and knives – and you have a cutlery set right there! You can do the same for a set of jars – simply paint the lids so they match one another, and you have a collection with you.

It is equally simple to make something fancy sounding, like a tiered serving plate. All you need to do is take plates that are approximately similar in shape and color, and glue them together with an upturned wine goblet. Note that you need to coat the plates with polyurethane – that will allow them to stand. Allow it to stand for at least 2 days to help it dry completely.

Lighting:

You can make a plain lampshade in the room look very unique simply by adding appliqués and embellishments to it. All you need to do is head to the closest DIY store and pick them up. As for lighting across the room, make sure the kitchen is brightly lit. One way to make sure of this is by allowing outside light to enter the room more easily.
